A vaccine for dengue fever gets tested at Hopkins

A vaccine against dengue fever, a potentially serious flu-like infection that is on the rise, is undergoing tests at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.

If it’s eventually proven effective, it could have far-reaching implications. About 2.5 billion people in more than 100 countries are at risk of such an infection – including some in the United States. It’s been discovered in Florida.

G’s Tip of The Week – Salad Dressing

Gina Aliotti shares a tip regarding dressing up your salad.

Salad dressing can easily significantly increase the calories and fats of your “healthy salad”. Be sure to always ask for your dressing on the side. Lightly drizzle dressing over your salad or dip each bite gently into the dressing. For store bought versions, simply dilute the dressing with 1/2 part water to dressing. You can then add a bit more dressing without all the calories and fat!

Recipe of the day: G’s Light Tomato Vinaigrette • 1 cup Cup Fresh Tomatoes • 1/4 Cup EVOO • 1 tbsp fresh garlic • 2 tbsp fresh basil • 1/4 cup water • 1 tsp black pepper • 3 Tbsp. balsamic vinegar.

X Core Fitness will be opening up a new location for their 30 Minute Fitness Boot Camp on Monday August 16th in Worcester, MA. Designed for the busy individual in mind, this workout has been created with the principles of Metabolic Resistance Interval Training to maximize results in minimal time. Each person who signs up for the 30 Minute Boot Camp will also get a Customized Nutrition Plan to augment the results of their workouts. Victims of Afghan massacre gave years of service

One gave up a lucrative practice to give free dental care to children who had never seen a toothbrush. Others had devoted whole decades of their lives to helping the Afghan people through war and deprivation.

The years of service ended in a hail of bullets in a remote valley of a land that members of the medical team had learned to love.

The bodies of the 10 slain volunteers — six Americans, two Afghans, a German and a Briton — were flown Sunday back to Kabul by helicopter, even as friends and family bitterly rejected Taliban claims the group had tried to convert Afghans to Christianity.

Also flown to the capital was the lone survivor of the attack, an Afghan driver who said he was spared because he was a Muslim and recited Islamic holy verses as he begged for his life. The
