People With Fatty Liver are Five Times More Likely to Develop Diabetes: Study

A new study has found that people who have fatty liver disease are five times more likely to develop Type 2 diabetes than people who don’t have fatty liver. The five-year study of 11,091 Koreans found that those who had fatty liver disease also had higher triglycerides, lower “good” cholesterol, and other metabolic abnormalities that can signal Type 2 diabetes, even if their fasting insulin levels seemed normal at the study’s start.

However, if you want your job application to stand out and have the opportunity to get a better position do not exclude the possibility of becoming a certified technician phlebotomy. Thyroid Surgery Can Reduce Snoring, Other Sleep Apnea Symptoms

Obstructive sleep apnea, caused by narrowing or blockage of the airways when a person is asleep affects about 20% of the population. Typically a person with OSA will begin snoring loudly on falling asleep. If not treated, obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) can increase a persons risk of death. It is not clear whether an enlarged thyroid gland, known as a goiter, can worsen cause or worsen symptoms of OSA by compressing the airway.

Alexandra Reiher, MD, and colleagues from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, evaluated the impact of goiter on OSA by assessing OSA symptoms such as snoring before and after thyroidectomy to remove all or part of and enlarged thyroid gland.

HEALTH, Providence School District Cooperate to Contain Mumps

The Rhode Island Department of Health (HEALTH) announces the successful containment of a cluster of two cases of mumps among staff at a Providence school.

HEALTH received a report on October 17 that two staff members at a Providence school had been diagnosed with mumps. In addition, one of these staff persons conducted an in-service training while infectious. HEALTH worked with the Providence Public School Department to evaluate who may have been exposed to the two staff members. HEALTHs Division of Infectious Diseases and Epidemiology determined that 14 staff members at the school and 18 other adults from other schools who attended the in-service training may have been exposed.
